The debate on Financing for Development was given a crucial push at the 2002 Financing for Development Conference held in Monterrey, Mexico. Heads of State and Governments 'resolved to address the challenges of Financing for Development around the world and particularly in developing countries'.

Social Watch India released the first perspective paper on “Law Under Globalization” which provides an insight into recent trends in both law making processes and judicial behaviour, with a stress on how the logic and instruments of globalization are directly affecting the rule of law.

New York, September 22 -- Contrary to repeated mainstream claims that poverty is diminishing fast in the world, the coverage of the basic needs required to escape poverty is slowing down and even regressing in many places, says the 2008 Basic Capabilities Index (BCI) released today by Social Watch, a network of more than 400 civil society organizations in 70 countries.

NEW YORK (Feb 28) – The economic dimension is the next challenge towards global gender equity. More than half the women in the world live in countries that have made no progress towards gender equity in recent years. That is one of the findings of the Gender Equity Index (GEI) 2008 that Social Watch launched here as a contribution to the 52nd Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women that will end next March 8, the International Women’s Day.

Next Friday, February 1, 2008, the North-South Institute, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives and the Canadian Feminist Alliance for International Action (FAFIA) will be launching the Canadian chapter of the international report Social Watch Report 2007: in dignity and rights.

Social Watch Benin has just launched her website. Through this bilingual English and French website Watchers will find out about the work and achievements of Social Watch Benin. This site fulfils a strong desire of the entire membership of the Social Watch Bénin network and aims at making visible all information and inputs susceptible of reinforcing the network’s synergy and the actions for social equality and the achievement of the MDGs.

Next Thursday, January the 31st, Social Watch Bénin will be launching de Social Watch Report 2007 together with the Alternative CSO’s Report on the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). The launching will take place at the Palace of Congress, in Cotonou.

Opening for the position of Campaign Coordinator at the Social Watch International Secretariat in Montevideo. Applications must be sent before January 25, 2008.

Thirty participants attended a workshop held at the Mogadishu' Sahafi II hotel on Tuesday and Wednesday 20th and 21st of November 2007. SOCDA organised the gathering in order to highlight the importance of civil society networks.
